Behaviour & emotional wellbeing

ICCM recognises the importance of emotional wellbeing, which is the ability to recognise the value of emotions and use them to move forward in a positive direction.

As a complex health care provider, ICCM looks at each individual in a holistic manner. We make sure that our care plans cover emotional, psychological and social wellbeing, as well as physical wellbeing.

Decreased emotional wellbeing can have a serious detrimental effect on mental health, which in turn can have a negative impact on physical health and wellbeing. Our health care support staff are fully trained on how to promote positive emotional wellbeing. We encourage clients to proactively identify their own triggers and early warning signs for distress or low mood, and we teach them effective coping skills.

All our clients are unique, and we support them no matter how they choose to manage their needs. We make sure that all our staff are highly trained to adapt and be flexible in their support.

Sometimes our clients present with behaviours that challenge, due to the nature of their conditions. These may put themselves or others at risk, and lead to a poorer quality of life. We give our staff  training on how to manage behavioural difficulties, including spotting early warning signs, de-escalation and challenging behaviour training, whilst keeping themselves – and the client – safe. Key to this training is the ability to try and understand the reasons for the behaviour, for example whether the client may be in pain or experiencing anxieties.

At ICCM we try to improve the understanding of behaviours that challenge and give information and support to the client, their families or carers as well as their healthcare support staff. This helps us to provide a better service and more opportunities for our clients.
